Appeal Court Takes Over Saraki's False Asset Declaration Case

Posted by Thandiubani on Fri 09th Oct, 2015 - tori.ng

Court of Appeal in Abuja has taken over the case of Bukola Saraki charged for alleged false declaration of assets before the tribunal.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki

The Court of Appeal yesterday in Abuja granted speedy hearing after listening to arguments of counsel to Bukola Saraki, Malam Mahmoud Abubaka Magaji (SAN), according to Daily Trust.

This means that the Court of Appeal has formally assumed jurisdiction over the ongoing trial of Senater President, Bukola Saraki over allegation of false asset declaration which automatically stops the Code of Conduct Tribunal from proceeding with the case pending the outcome of the appeal.

Saraki had gone to the Appeal Court following his arraignment by the Tribunal last month to obtain an order seeking a stay of proceedings. He wants the appellate court to stop his continued trial at the tribunal.

The three-man panel of Justices headed by Justice Adumein directed the Federal Government to file its brief before October 16, when the appeal will come up for hearing.
