On Monday, 16th November, mother of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and director of Radio Biafa, Ugoeze Nnenne Kanu, led the large crowd of protesters that grounded activities in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, which happens to be Kanu’s hometown.

The protesters who marched peacefully around the city, carrying the portrait of Nnamdi and the Biafran flag while chanting songs of freedom, demanded the release of their son Nnamdi, who was arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) over alleged anti-Nigerian government comments on radio Biafra.

Nnammdi Kanu’s sister, Princess Chichi Kanu, also joined the protest which started at about 5:30am at Ubakala. The protesters carried the Biafran flag and sang solidarity songs, marching through Isi Court, in Umuahia South, Old Umuahia Road, Aba Road, Umuwaya Road, Isi Gate, Bende Road, Enugu Road and Ama Hausa.

The protests is the latest of a series of protests that have been recorded in the South Eastern part of the country and parts of the Delta and Rivers State.
