2700-Year Old 'Mummy' of Egyptian High Priest Found in Ancient Tomb (Photos)

Experts have made an interesting discovery by finding the mummy of 2,700 Egyptian high priest in an ancient tomb.

 
According to experts, the historic find which was made of wood included ceremonial decorations and beard as well as hieroglyphic markings.
 
The sarcophagus of belonging to 2,700 year-old ‘high priest of God Amun’ Ankh-f-n-khonsu has been discovered in the west bank of Luxor, Egypt.
 
The historic discovery was announced on Thursday, November 26, and experts said it was made of wood and included ceremonial decoration and hieroglyphic markings.
 
Ankh-f-n-khonsu's sarcophagus was found in Luxor, Egypt in the tomb of Amenhotep-Huy, who was viceroy and vizier of Eygpt during the reign of Pharaoh Amenhotep III which lasted from 1391BC to 1353BC.
 
 
Upper Egypt antiquities department director, Sultan Eid, said: "The sarcophagus is made of wood and covered with a layer of plaster. It represents the deceased wearing a wig and crown with flowers and colourful ribbons along with ceremonial beard and a necklace adorning his chest."
 
 
Antiquities Ministry boss, Mahmoud Afifi said the artefact was "well preserved" and said it was clear the tomb had been reused more than 500 years after it was completed.
 
The tomb was discovered in 1978 and a team of archaeologists have been studying and renovating it since 2009.
