7 Simple Things You Should Stop Doing on Social Media

Social media platforms have the deceitful look of encouraging unlimited freedom for users which prompts them to abuse the system.
 
Below is a list of do's and don'ts that should guide the conduct of Nigerians on social media.
 
DO'S
 
1. Let your bio or profile be attractive. Summarise what you do in your bio, it makes it easier for fans to locate you. In other words, maximise your bio or profile.
 
2. Interact with your followers. Let them know your social media profile is being handled by a human not a robot.
 
3. Be original by creating your own posts. Do less of copy and pasting of third party posts. Let your posts reflect creativity and originality.
 
4. Offer great customer service. Answer questions as soon as possible and mention a follower by name in a comment to make them feel relevant.
 
5. You are allowed to be funny with your posts as long as no one is offended.
 
6. Post what your followers will like to see. Posts on your page are not about what you like, they are about what interests your followers. Tailor your posts to catch their attention.
 
7. Spice your posts with quality images or with short videos. Posts with images or short videos tend to attract more attention.
 
 
DON'TS
 
1. Ignoring comments and questions from followers is a big turn off. Also, don't delete negative comments on your page, try as much as possible to calm an angry customer.
 
2. Don't be on all social media platforms, pick the one that suits what you do and stick to it.
 
3. Don't pick fights or quarrels on social media platforms. It sends wrong signals to followers and intending followers. It gives you a bad reputation.
 
4. Connecting with everyone all because they follow you is not right. Following some category of people will have a negative influence on your brand.
 
5. Don't use text only in your posts. Posts without images rarely attract attention.
 
6. Don't allow long breaks between your posts. Be regular and consistent.
 
7. Don't choke your followers with posts. Don't overdo it, choose the frequency of your post based on the social media platforms.
 
For example, it is advisable to post on Twitter up to 5 times daily as the lifespan of a tweet is short. One post per day is appropriate for Facebook and Instagram.
