A report by the Sun Newspaper has shown that palpapble fear has gripped the Chairman and other members of the Delta State Post Primary Education Board (PPEB), following the alleged raid on the office of the board, located along Summit Road, Asaba by suspected gunmen.

Armed with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, the bandits numbering four, were said to have invaded the headquarters of PPEB where they carted away valuables worth millions of Naira.

A security guard attached to the office, Mr. Henry Eboagwu, reportedly fled for his life when he saw the hoodlums brandishing their weapons at about 3.30am.

They allegedly burgled the office of the chairman of the board and the IT unit, where they were said to have made away with three Central Processing Units (CPUs) of HP branded computer systems, three flat screen computer monitors and one laptop in a bag.

At the office of the chairman, it was not clear whether any vital document was removed by the robbers who scattered the chairs and tables while ransacking the office.

They might have gained access by breaking the ceiling in each of the office as their foot prints were still on the wall in the IT unit.

Chairman of the board, Sir. Patrick Akporuno, said he was stunned by the ugly incident, adding that it must have be the handiwork of those who do not want the progress of the board.

Akporuno, who inspected the damage caused by the invasion along with the first executive member, Mrs. Ifeoma Agbormah, said the development was a very sad one, adding that he was greatly disturbed by it.

His words, “We have been getting threats to life for sanitizing the board. We have stopped all forms of irregularities in the board, we are really very disturbed, especially now that we are mourning the death of three of our principals and one vice principal who lost their lives in a fatal crash,” he said.

Saying that the matter has been reported to the police, he disclosed that the data base of the board was not touched by the hoodlums.

Meanwhile, the state government is to bankroll the medical bills of the survivors of last Friday’s accident that claimed the lives of three principals and one vice principal.

The state’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, it was learnt, was already working on the directive of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to liaise with the Chief Medical Directors of both DELSUTH and UBTH where the surviving victims are receiving treatment in how to offset the bills.
