A dramatic incident has left many people baffled after an 82-year-old man, Amusan Joseph, abducted two female minors for 11 days in Eruwa, Oyo State.

Security operatives revealed that Amusan had intended to use the kids for money rituals or possible child trafficking. He was arrested by the Operation Burst, a Oyo State joint security task force, comprising Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and so on.

The octogenarian was paraded by the Commander of Operation Burst, Brig.-Gen. Usman Yusuf, at the headquarters of the outfit, Agodi, Ibadan, on Wednesday.

The occasion also witnessed the commissioning of a six-room officers lodge built for the outfit by the Oyo State Government. Yusuf commissioned the project in the presence of Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Security Matters, Mr. Segun Abolarinwa.

Besides, the commander also paraded four suspected Internet fraudsters, among whom three among them claimed to be students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. Yusuf said they would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

But the suspected abductors said he only wanted to help the two girls- Opeyemi Popoola, 14, and Opeyemi Hamsat,13, when they became wanderers because they wanted to escape punishment from their parents.

“I asked the girls to come into my house and they did. I consulted the oracle for them and discovered that there was nothing they could do to escape punishment, except they bath with traditional black soap to appease the spirit of their parents.

“Through the oracle, I saw that their parents were very angry and they might kill the girls if they unleash the anger on them. So, I gave the soap to them to bathe and I did not attempt to bathe for them by myself. I asked them yo use the soap. Also, I fed them very well. I did not have evil intention against the girls.”

But the girls told newsmen that the octogenarian wanted to use them for money ritual. According to Opeyemi Popoola, she went with her friend to pick cashew from Aborerin area of Eruwa to New Eruwa, which is about three kilometres. But they returned home late and their parents wanted to beat them. So, they ran away.

The girls said they slept in a nearby church the day they ran away from home and the octogenarian offered to assist them when he saw them roaming the street the following day. So, they agreed and the man accommodated them.

“He gave us enough food. Everyday, the man gave us chicken to eat. He too ate chicken, but the soup he gave us was prepared in a different pot. He gave us local soap to bathe and we kept the soap. We did not use it.

“We heard the man calling one prince on phone and when the prince came from Ibadan to Eruwa, I heard him telling the Baba that the rites he did for him was going down and he wanted it to be boosted. Then, Baba told him that the items to renew the rites were already in the house and Baba said he would have sexually intercourse with us that night.

“So, we escaped through the window of the room he gave us that night before he carried out his mission. There was no burglary proof on the window.

“We would have escaped before we spent up to 11 days in the man’s house, but my friend said we should not because of the chicken the Baba gave us on daily basis. If we left, we would have no opportunity to eat chicken the way we did in the Baba’s house.”
