Idowu Babatunde, a 57-year-old man, who allegedly pretended to be a police officer, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates ‘Court in Ogun.
NAN reports that Babatunde, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of impersonation.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 15 at about 6.30p.m. at Sango-Ota.
Gbesi said the accused paraded himself as a police officer, which he knew was false.
“He used the position to harass and defraud innocent people,’’ he said.
The offence contravened Section 486 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until June 28 for mention.
