Victory Rally: Gov. Fayose Accuses Buhari of Nepotism as Supporters Ask God to Scatter APC

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti have asked God to 'arise and scatter' the APC at an event to mark the third anniversary of Ayo Fayose, governor of the state.

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Wednesday, celebrated the 3-years of his victory in the June 2014 Governorship Election when he defeated Kayode Fayemi in all the 16 local government areas, as the residents of Ekiti trooped out in large number in Ado Ekiti.

While speaking during the rally, the governor took a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing him of running a government of nepotism, stating that the 2017 budget did not capture the interests of all Nigerians, especially Ekiti State with no federal government appropriated for it.

According to Punch newspaper, Governor Fayose said the people of the state would revolt against the All Progressives Congress in the 2018 governorship poll due to its insensitivity to the plights of Ekiti.

In a veiled reference to the Secretary to the Federal Government, Babachir David Lawal, over an allegation of multimillion naira contract relating to the welfare of the Internally Displaced People of the Northeast, Fayose accused the federal government of sweeping under the carpet, the panel set up to try many of the APC’s cronies.

“A government in nepotism can’t stand the test of time. The economy of this country has shrunk under this government. I say they will go, they must go. Nigerians are hungry and angry.

“I’m not one Nigerian that will chicken out to join a political party. We will remain here telling them truth, telling them the economy is not working, we stand them for the truth.”

The crowd comprising members of the PDP, artisans, transport unions and youths among others marched through Fajuyi Park to Ojumose and stopped at the popular Ijigbo roundabout in a show of strength and force to display their loyalty to Fayose.

Fayose said, “The policy of Buhari’s government is anti-Ekiti. If you check properly, nothing was budgeted as a project for Ekiti in 2017 budget. That is why Nigeria must be restructured so that a state can control its own resources.

“The APC-led federal government is fighting everybody, the judiciary and legislators, as well as the press, were not spared. They are running a lawless government and that was why they refused to release Col. Bello Dasuki and El-Zakky Zakky despite court orders. This is not the kind of Nigeria of our dream.

“The APC will be upset in 2018, we will crush them and that is why you have to be strong and firm. I am a leader in Nigeria and nobody can gag or cow me because this country belongs to all of us. Today, Nigerians are hungry and angry. There is so much nepotism and poverty in the land, so this government must go.

“Nigeria must be restructured. You can’t get peace when there is no justice. You must do budget that will represent the interest of everybody; this country belongs to all of us. This is not the kind of Nigeria we craved for. There must be equity.

“They have no choice than to restructure this country for good. They have abandoned their manifesto. They are no longer talking about it.”

At the programme, the governor reeled out his achievements in office and said he was in court to determine the possibility of contesting the forthcoming election. He also alleged that his government had been deprived of many benefits under the current administration.

After his speech, Fayose handed over the microphone to one of the organisers of the event who was supposed to lead a praise section.

The instrumentalists played the rhythm of a popular Christian song, ‘Let God arise’, but rather than sing the song in the expected manner, the crowd chose to go about it their own way.

"Let God arise and the APC be scattered. Let God arise and the APC be scattered

"Let God arise and the APC be scattered. Let God, Let God arise

"The atmosphere got charged as they continued repeating those words."
