A popular News Agency in China is mocking Nigeria and its President who after spending over 100 days abroad for medical vacation, came back and was chased away by rodents in his office.

The office of Nigerian leader Muhammadu Buhari was infested with rodents while he was on a long medical vacation in London, according to the presidency.

Buhari, who resumed duties on Monday, is working from the office inside his official residence pending the completion of renovation work in the regular presidential office, his media team said Tuesday.

"Following the three months period of disuse, rodents have caused a lot of damage to the furniture and the air conditioning units," Garba Shehu, a senior communication assistant to the president, told local newspaper ThisDay.

Shehu said the maintenance firm was speeding up its pace of work to allow Buhari to operate from his regular office.

This announcement was greeted by mixed reactions, with many members of the public saying the renovation ought to be completed before his arrival from the 104-day medical trip overseas.
Buhari's home office is a replica of his regular office, within the same complex.

Femi Adesina, the president's main spokesman, confirmed the 74-year-old leader had met with his vice-president on Monday when the latter briefed his principal on the major developments while he was away.

Buhari also met with the nation's security chiefs inside his home office on Tuesday, Adesina said, adding the decision was not intended for the president to luxuriate at home.

The Nigerian leader flew out of the West African country on May 7, on medical vacation, and got a rousing welcome upon his arrival in Abuja last Saturday.
