Little Superhero: How 25-year-old Mother Was Saved From R*pe Attack By Her 3-year-old Daughter

Posted by Samuel on Tue 19th Sep, 2017 - tori.ng

A woman has told of how she was sensationally saved from a brutal rape attack by daughter who is just three-year-old.

Rachel Brown

A mother-of-two has told how her three-year-old daughter saved her from a horrifying r*pe attack.

Rachel Brown, from Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, and toddler Holly, now five, were pounced on by a sick stranger as she walked home from the bus in July 2015.

As the thug pulled at her clothes, the 25-year-old braced herself for the worst - but suddenly she felt her little girl's arms around her neck as she whispered: "Come on Mummy, get up."

This summoned a strength in Rachel that she didn't know she had and she fought back, kneeing her attacker in the groin.

As he flew back, she and Holly jumped up and ran home.

Police later identified her attacker - a 15-year-old lad - as she'd bitten him on the hand in bid to escape.

He appeared in court in February this year and was sentenced to three years in a youth offenders institution for attempted rape.

Now Rachel had bravely waived her right to anonymity to share her harrowing tale.

She recalled how she and Holly had been swimming at their local pool on the evening of the attack.

"It was two weeks since my partner Adam had gone abroad with his friends for a holiday and he was due home in a few hours, so we were excited," she said.

At first Rachel didn't notice the young man swagger onto the bus, clearly drunk and sporting a bruised left knuckle.

When he tried to make conversation with her and asked for directions she politely told him to stay on the bus until the end of the line.

Jumping off at her stop, Rachel told how she had stopped to do up Holly's jacket when she noticed a figure standing behind them.

"It was 9:30pm and darker than I'd realised," she explained. "My heart started beating fast as I recognised the man from the bus. I told him to wait for the next bus, but when he started following us I felt sick.

"I tried to walk faster but I could hear him behind us. I prayed somebody would come out of one of the houses, but the street was deserted."

As Rachel went to cross the road to her house, she felt a hand on her shoulder.

She recalled: "He said, 'Come down here with me' and gestured to the embankment on our left.

"Holly held her arms out to me, clearly scared, and I picked her and told him no.

"But before I could walk away he grabbed the back of my hair and threw us both to the ground.

"As Holly rolled to one side he climbed on top of me and started pawing at me like a crazed animal, tearing off my clothes.

"My first thought was Holly, but as I looked around I realised she was nowhere to be seen. The thought of my toddler wandering around the streets alone filled me with horror."

Rachel Brown and her daughter

Rachel fought with her attacker, but his full weight was on her and he yanked down her jeans and underwear.

"I could feel my body going numb," she said. "I realised fighting was pointless, and in that split second I knew I had no choice but to let him rape me - then I could go and find Holly.

"I braced myself for the worst, but as he fumbled with his belt I looked around and saw Holly's terrified face staring back at me.

"At first I thought I was dreaming, but then she knelt down and wrapped her arms around my neck, whispering, 'Come on Mummy, get up.'

"Frightened that he would turn on her, I summoned a strength I didn't know I had."

Rachel sprang into action, punching her attacker hard in the chest before sinking her teeth into his knuckle and kicking him hard in the groin, sending him flying back in agony.

She then picked up Holly and ran to the house, hiding behind a bin as she realised she'd left her bag with her keys.

Once he'd limped off, she dashed back to grab it and let herself inside, before bursting into tears.

Within minutes of calling the police the street was swarming with officers - at which point Adam returned home.

A few hours later police arrested a 15-year-old.

"I felt sick," said Rachel. "How could a teenager be capable of such a vicious attack?"

For months afterwards she and Holly both suffered in different ways.

"Holly was too little to understand what my attacker had been trying to do to me, but she became terrified of crowded public places and refused to go outside without Adam with us," Rachel explained.

"I developed a stutter and became so anxious about talking to strangers that I had to quit my job as a trainee carer at a local children's centre."

Earlier this year, despite her attacker pleading not guilty, he was convicted at Newcastle Crown Court.

"I will never get over what happened to me," Rachel admitted. "I just hope I finally learn how to cope with it.

"But I will never forget Holly's bravery. If it wasn't for her staying with me, giving me the chance to escape, I could have been raped - or worse.

"I know we'll be able to move forward from this together, into a happier, stronger life."
