Rachid Riahi, a 37-year-old English man wielding a hammer attacked his ‘ex-partner’ in her home just months after he was released for stabbing his stepfather to death.

According to a report by Metro UK, the man attacked his ex lover, Gemma Charlton in her flat in Surbiton, south-west London, while her 13 year-old son was sleeping upstairs on August 4.

The teenager awoke after he heard his mum screaming and when he came downstairs he saw Riahi standing over her with a hammer.

Luckily a female companion took the hammer away from him before he could strike her and she also prevented him from taking it back after he shouted ‘I’m not finished with her yet’.

Miss Charlton suffered extensive bruising to her neck, knees and elbows after being assaulted by Riahi.

Raana Sheik, defending, said Miss Charlton was an ex-partner and Riahi believed she would prevent him seeing his daughter.

The barrister added he had stopped off at her home on his way to his decorating job. Stephen Apted, prosecuting, told Kingston Crown Court: ‘At that time she heard a banging on her front door.

She looked through the spyhole and saw the defendant. She opened the door and he pushed his way into the flat.’

Mr Apted added: ‘He was in possession of a hammer. He pushed her into the living room, smashing a window.

‘He grabbed her and threw her to the floor and hit her. He kicked her, she managed to get up before being thrown to the floor again. She felt a blow to the face and the defendant stamped on her ribs.

‘He raised the hammer as if to hit her but was prevented from doing so by the other woman he was with.’

Mr Apted said Riahi continued to send Miss Charlton unpleasant text messages while she was in hospital and was eventually detained the following night on August 5.

Judge Andrew Campbell adjourned sentencing until December 4, to decide on a correct basis of plea after Riahi claimed he did not deliberately arm himself with a hammer.

Riahi, from Carlton Road, Walton-Upon-Thames, admitted aggravated burglary. He was remanded in custody until December 4.

Riahi had been jailed for six-and-half years in 2010 for stabbing his stepfather Kevin Francis, 49, to death following a row at their family home in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.

He had used a knife he was making a cheese sandwich with to stab Mr Francis.
