Anambra Man Killed Six Days to Wedding

A man who was close to getting married in Anambra, South-eastern part of Nigeria has been killed just a few days to tying his nuptial knot.

A man, Ndubuisi Oye, said to be preparing for his wedding  on Sunday has been allegedly killed by a vigilante in Ogbunike community, in the Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
 
Property worth thousands of naira was razed in the area following the incident which happened on Monday.
 
A correspondent gathered that the vigilante, Levi Elobis, known as commander, killed Oye on St. Monica’s Road, Ogbunike.
 
Oye’s  fiancée, Miss Oluma Agbugba, said, “We were coming back from a committee of friends’ meeting in preparation for our wedding on Sunday.

“When we got to St. Monica’s Road, my fiancé alighted to refill his commercial bus and as we were about driving off, a Toyota Hillux vehicle blocked our path and the man who emerged from the vehicle ordered both of us to come down from the bus.

“I alighted and saw that the man had a gun. The man ordered my fiancé (Oye) to come down from the bus and he shot him at a close range. He thereafter drove off, leaving him in a pool of blood.

“Some passersby stopped  to assist me to move him to Iyienu Hospital. He died on the way to the hospital.”
 
The deceased, 27; hailed from Ezza, Ebonyi State, while the fiancee  is from Imo State.
 
Some  Ebonyi people living in Ogbunike, on hearing what happened, went on the rampage and set the house of the commander and his three cars ablaze.
 
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Mr Junior Onwutaka, said he tried unsuccessfully to stop the mob, but he was overpowered.
 
The Anambra State Police Commissioner, Garba Umar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect (commander) had been arrested.
 
Umah said, “He is in police custody. We will also get those who burnt his property.”
