Lagos Lady Sent to Prison for Alleged Theft One Month to Her Wedding

Posted by George on Sat 28th Oct, 2017 - tori.ng

A lady might have her wedding ceremony cancelled or have it organized in absentia after she was sentenced to jail for four weeks.

The forthcoming marriage between two lovers, Chima Madueke and his fiancée, Chioma Christopher has been stalled after Chioma was docked and sent to prison for allegedly stealing some dollars kept inside Chima’s elder sister house.

The incident happened at Ben Bright Street in Ago Okota, Lagos where Chima’s elder sister, Rachel reside with her husband, Living stone.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the incident happened barely one month after the couple and their family had concluded plans for the traditional marriage and church wedding back home in Anambra State.

It was alleged that Chima sent Chioma to his elder sister, Rachel from Onitsha in Anambra to Lagos to conclude plans for their wedding as agreed by both family.

When Chioma got to Rachel’s house, she was given free access to enter into their rooms including their bedroom. Rachel was said to have sent Chioma to their bedroom fridge for her to bring out the meat which they will use to cook. When she got there, she was said to have stolen one thousand six hundred dollars ($1,600) that Rachel’s husband had kept inside the fridge and went away.

However, the theft was exposed when she went to change the money at a local bureau de change in the street. She was shortchanged and given fake dollars which resulted in altercation between her and the operator of the local bureau de change.

When Rachel’s husband later returned from work and looked for the money, he did not find it. He asked around and Chioma then confessed taking it, claiming that she did not know what came over her to steal the money.

She was handed over to the police at Ago Division and she was charged before Isolo Magistrates court for stealing.

She pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adedayo granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition. It was gathered that both Chima and his family have washed their hands off and cancelled the marriage.
