The deceased, identified as Afusat Musa, a junior school student who resided on Ishaga road in the Idi-Araba area of Lagos state was electrocuted by a partially disconnected live wire on Tuesday, October 6.
The Punch reports that four officials from the Eko Electricity Distribution Company visited the neighbourhood and disconnected cables from houses that were yet to pay their electricity bills.
The cable of a storey building which was disconnected was abandoned on the roof of a mosque while the other end was still attached to an electric pole.
Soon after power was restored, the 15 year old girl was reportedly returning from an errand at around 7pm when she touched a pole beside her house which was close to the mosque and got electrocuted.
She was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Aminu Musa, the brother of the deceased said the matter was reported at the Itire police station and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency.
He added that when the manager of the electricity distribution company came around, he denied sending his officials to disconnect the cables.
Howeer, Zainab, the mother of the deceased said it was when people confronted the workers that they admitted that their mistake resulted in the tragedy.
