The Presidency has said it is aware of an audio recording in which Leah Sharibu, the remaining Dapchi schoolgirl held captive by a faction of the Boko Haram, begged President Muhammadu Buhari to help free her.

Reacting to the audio on Twitter, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, said on Monday after the recording was exclusively published by online media organisation, TheCable that the Department of State Services (DSS) is investigating the clip.

In the audio clip, the 15-year-old said in Hausa, “I am Leah Sharibu, the girl that was abducted in GGSS Dapchi. I am calling on the government, particularly, the President to pity me and get me out of this serious situation.”

“I also plead to the members of the public to help my mother, my father, my younger brother and relatives. Kindly help me out of my predicament. I am calling on the government and people of goodwill to intervene to get me out of my current situation. I am begging you to treat me with compassion.”

Leah has been in captivity after the insurgents invaded and abducted over 100 students from the Government Girls Secondary School, Dapchi in Yobe State in February.

The terrorists kept her in captivity allegedly for refusing to renounce Christianity.
