Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, has ordered full scale investigation to fish out the murderers of Mr. Tajudeen Disu, Director of Lekki Worldwide Investment Company. The late Disu was shot dead by assailants during an official visit to one of the villages within the zone.

Ambode said this when he addressed Government House correspondents, at the Lagos House, Ikeja where he confirmed that the late Disu was shot by assailants during an official visit to one of the villages within the zone.

Adding his voice, the Commissioner of Police has assured the people of the state that the police have swung into action to ensure that the killers of Disu were brought to book.

Owoseni said that some suspects have been apprehended and investigation was on-going to determine if there were major sponsors of the killing.

“We have so far arrested 10 suspects and these are people that we believe are directly responsible for the murder. We are still in the center of the operation and more arrests will be made.

“We would do a diligent investigation. We will ensure that the people that are behind the murder are arrested. It is not just the people that we see on the road that could be the perpetrators; there may be sponsors. We will go after these sponsors and we will ensure the investigation is carried out as speedily as possible and also ensure that those arrested are diligently prosecuted,” the Police boss said.

Ambode said: "We are deeply touched with the loss of our dedicated officer at the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Alhaji Tajudeen Disu, who was until his death the arrow head of the Free Trade Zone Initiative. He was killed within the Lekki Free Trade Zone this morning.  It really saddens my heart and the heart of all of us because this was somebody that has been dedicated to his duty in the past ten years.”

Some of the villagers complained that they were attacked by armed policemen during a peaceful protest they staged against government's plan to takeover their land.

The community leaders in the 16 villages of Ibeju-Lekki had accused the management of Lekki Free Trade Zone ltd and Lekki Worldwide Investment Ltd of illegal trespass on their land without paying compensation. This has caused loggerheads between the company and the villagers.

He also urged residents of Ibeju-Lekki to remain calm, adding that his administration would continue to ensure that the security of lives and properties was accorded necessary priority in the State while the zone remained safe for investors.

The governor directed the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni to ensure that no stone was left unturned in order to determine the events that led to the murder of Disu.

He described late Disu as a man who was committed to promoting the inflow of investment to Lagos State. He also expressed concern over the motives of those behind the killing.
