Suspected insurgents who repelled a military attack in the Okene area of Kogi state are being massively raided following an intelligence report on their movements.
The military is engaging some suspected insurgents in a gun battle at Inike axis in Okene local government area of Kogi state, according to DailyTrust.
It was learnt that trouble started at about 5 am when soldiers mobilized to the area to arrest some members of the group following intelligence reports.
The group, it was learnt opened fire upon sighting the soldiers injuring one of them (soldiers) while the soldiers in turn engaged them in gun duel and reportedly burnt down their mosque.
It is not yet clear, the number of casualties as the gun battle is still said to be ongoing. Residents of the area are said to have scampered for safety.
When contacted, Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, Ovye Aya William, who confirmed the incident said it is the army that is embarking on a raid in the area.
