Witnesses and police say a military helicopter crashed in an explosion of fire near a college hostel in northeast Nigeria, where troops are fighting an Islamic insurgency. They saw no survivors.
Barely two months after Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the downing of a military jet, witnesses made up of local residents and the police claim a military helicopter crashed and exploded near a college dormitory in the capital city of Adamawa State, Yola; which is one of the three states that make up the core zones of BH operations.
Four days ago the military reported a helicopter safely crash-landed minutes after take-off from Yola International Airport in Adamawa state. Last month Boko Haram Islamic extremists said they shot down a fighter jet and published video showing the beheading of a man friends identified as a Nigerian Air Force pilot.
Police Spokesman in the State, Uthman Abubakar confirmed the ugly incident but offered no further details as at press time. One of the major state institutions that has suffered massive human resource loss is the Police, which is popularly acclaimed to be corrupt.
According to Habu Mallam, an eyewitness, the helicopter came crashing on midnight Thursday in a ball of fire near a dormitory at Modibbo Adama University of Technology. In a similar vein, Daniel, a student of the university claimed to have seen two helicopters hovering in the air before one stalled and came crashing with an impact that sent cold shivers through the students.
The FG, at various times and platforms, claims to be on top of the situation and continue to vow to put an end to the group's dastardly acts which have caused the country incalculable misery, pain, and loss- both emotional and financial. Already, majority of small and medium enterprises in the region are practically on their knees. However, little seems to be really effected.
