According to the OPC's embattled National publicity secretary, Adesina Akinpelu, Gani was a carpenter before the Oodua Peoples Congress was founded in 1994 by some leaders. After that, the G29 having consulted the oracle, confirmed that Gani should be the leader of the group.
The 45 year old OPC leader and activist was actively involved in the 2015 general elections being a staunch PDP supporter and a friend to president Goodluck Jonathan.
