Five men arraigned in Court for impregnating a 13-year-old child.
Five men on Tuesday appeared before a Senior Magistrates Court in Katsina, for allegedly impregnating a 13- year-old minor. The suspects were charged with one-count of rape.
The five men arraigned were Amadu Mairake, 60, Samaila Hamza, 30, Hassan Surajo, 40, Sani Abdullahi, 30, and Hassan Ila, 40 residing at Borin-Dawa village in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Kastina State.
Police Information Report revealed that the accused persons committed the said offence on September 2, 2015. The police were brought into the case when Abdul-Malik Nuhu went to the Malumfashi Police Station and reported that the suspects impregnated his daughter. He also told the police that the accused had been having unprotected sexual intercourse with his daughter which resulted in pregnancy.
According to the Police First Information Report, the accused persons committed the offence on September 2, 2015.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Hashimu Musa told the court that the suspects committed an offence contrary to section 283 of the penal code. He however, told the court that the police were still investigating the matter.

When the matter came up for hearing,the police prosecutor, Mr Hashimu Musa, told the court that the suspects were arraigned for the purpose of cognizance only and that the police were still investigating the matter.
The Judge, Hajiya Nafisah Bagiwa, declined the accused to take the plea as it has no jurisdiction to do so. She directed the police prosecutor to file the case to the Ministry of Justice for advice.
Judge, Bagiwa adjourned the case to October 28 for further hearing.
