A 31-year-old Shawn Ryan Thomas from Florida, the USA, has been sentenced to 885 years in prison for his crimes.
Thomas was sentenced to prison for possessing a massive amount of child pornography.
The Honorable Marlene Alva, Circuit Judge in Seminole County, announced the court’s ruling on Monday, October 13.
According to Attorney General Pam Bondi, the man was sentenced on 59 counts of possession of child pornography, 15 years for each count.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) investigation revealed Thomas told an informant that he was planning to kidnap a child, kill the parents and rape his victim while filming the acts to produce child pornography. The FDLE quickly arrested the man before he was able to successfully carry out his plans.
During the trial, Thomas’ lawyer said that his client should not get life imprisonment because he does not have a criminal history.
Thomas’ mother, Diane Luther, asked the judge for mercy in court. She said that in childhood her son was physically abused by his father and then suffered from depression.
“He would come home from work in a bad mood and just take it out on him. He would pick him up, slam him up against the wall. We have marks in our wall where his head was at,” the aggrieved woman said.
