NDLEA Apprehends 109 Drug Trafficking Suspects

Edo state command of NDLEA has apprehended 109 traffickers

 
Commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State, Mr. Buba, Wakawa has told newsmen in Benin that it apprehended 109 persons for trafficking in illicit drug in the third quarter of 2015.
 
Disclosing more details, Wakawa said that the arrested suspects were 81 males and 28 female. He continued that the command has secured conviction of two suspects and has 30 cases still pending in court.
 
A total of 3. 428.8 Kilograms of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa also known as Indian hemp, 36.2 grams of substance suspected to be cocaine and 40 grams of suspected psychotropic substance were seized in the state in 2015 respectively.
 
He also disclosed that farmlands in Ovia North-East, Owan West and Etsako West Local Government of the state covering 19 farmlands measuring 44,000 hectares used in cultivating suspected cannabis plant were. 
 
The commander reiterated the agency's commitment at ridding the state of illicit drugs and users. He stated that about 50 heavy users of illicit drugs were counselled and rehabilitated during the period. He urged people to join hands with the agency to wage the war against drug trafficking.
