As the country await the final rescue of the school girls who were abducted from Chibok Borno state over a year ago, the House of Representatives is offering a suggestion.

The Lower Chamber has advised the federal government to adopt at least one child from the families of each of the 219 abducted Chibok school girls, for sponsorship up to the university level.

This was the position of the House of Representatives at plenary, on Tuesday, October 13, where it also called for financial inducement for information that would lead to the rescues of the girls who were abducted in April 2014.

The lawmakers also reminded President Muhammadu Buhari of his promise to ensure that the girls are rescued from their abductors.

Following a motion sponsored by Hon. Asabe Vilita (Borno APC), the House further called for the establishment of a situation room manned by highly skilled crack team drawn from the security agencies, with the sole responsibility of searching for the abducted girl, and providing periodic feedback for Nigerians.

Vilita stated that 17 parents of the abducted girls have died since the abduction of their daughters, and called for financial assistance to the families to cushion the hardship and trauma the abduction has caused them.

“I commend the ‘BringBackOurGirls’ campaign group for their efforts which for the past one and a half years ensured the abducted girls are not forgotten,” Vilita said.

The resolutions, which was passed by a unanimous voice vote, called for the publication of the report of Presidential Fact Finding Committee on the abducted girls.
