Sen. Shehu Sani
Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Sen. Shehu Sani has said that the Senate will soon create a special endowment fund for Arts and Literature so as to birth more greats like Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka.
He made this known when he sponsored a bill in the house seeking the establishment of an endowment fund for Arts and Literature, tagged "National Endowment for Arts Literature (2015)". The bill has passed through the first reading during Thursday's plenary.
Sani said the bill is aimed at revolutionizing the arts and literary sectors in the country.
”This is a very good aspect of our nation that has been neglected. The endowment fund, when established will avail authors, artists and literary gurus , the opportunity to fund their works.
”The sole aim of the bill is to support new generation of Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka in the country. Many young authors and artists possess the literary skills to excel in the world but their set back is funding and the bill address this,“ Sani said.
He also said the bill will sail through because it is in tandem with President Muhammadu Buhari's agenda for the country and will go a long way in helping fund and assist lecturers and researchers in our institutions of higher learning.
