Hundred of top members of the SDP have decamped to the main opposition party in Nigeria, PDP, as the 2019 election draws nearer.

About 500 members, including the entire executives of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia state, Thursday, dumped the party for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

Speaking at Amuda Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area, the venue of the declaration ceremony, the leader of the defectors and the current chairman of the SDP in the local government area, Dr. Daniel Okoroafor, said they were motivated to join the PDP because of the good works of the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.

Okoroafor pledged on behalf of other decampees, to work with all the PDP candidates to ensure a huge success in the upcoming 2019 election.

Welcoming the SDP decampees into the PDP fold, the Umunneochi local government area PDP Chairman, Elder Richard Agbadogu flanked with the Executive Chairman of the local government council, Barrister Okey Igwe, assured them of a level playing ground.

He said, “We thank you all for your courage to join the ruling PDP. It is unarguable that the PDP-led government in the state has done well in all facets of governance.

“And I’m assuring you that you all will be carried along in the activities of the party both in the local government level and state level.

“I advise you to eschew any activities that may jeopardize the chances of the party now that the 2019 general election has approached.
