Kano Youth Coalition for Advocacy and Development, KAYCAD, has called on Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje to step aside to allow the investigative committee constituted by the state House of Assembly conduct thorough investigation, without interference, according to a report by Daily Nigeria.

This is coming after the online newspaper, had released two of the 15 trove of video clips, showing Mr Ganduje collecting bribes to the tune of $5 million.

Chairman of the group, Rabi’u Shamma called the Governor to step aside at a press conference in Kano on Thursday.

Mr Shamma noted that, for an allegation like this, the best thing for a governor is to step aside to pave way for transparent investigation by a constituted committee.

He maintained that stepping aside by a governor under probe of corruption allegation is practiced all over the world.

According to him, that would go a long way in avoiding any form of interference in the investigative process.

“We are calling on the Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to step aside in order to ensure speedy and objective process, devoid of interference in the investigative process.

“This is the best practiced around the world as that will provide a conducive atmosphere for the committee to ensure justice and transparency in the process,” he said

The group, however, condemned the use of school children who carried placards as protesters in support of the governor during the public hearing organised by the state house assembly on October 25.

They called on the Kano Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB to investigate and penalise the head-teachers involved in the “exploitation of the underage children, in order to prevent future occurrence of the act.”

KAYCAD also reiterated its stance against corruption and called on other stakeholders to follow the investigation to a logical conclusion and to ensure punitive action against whoever found guilty.

“We also want to commend the committee for promptly setting an investigative panel in order to ascertain fact on the allegation against the governor.” he said.
