The police are on the trail of a caretaker who stole the sum of N150,000 from a tenant after an argument over rent. The caretaker disappeared after stealing the money the woman made from her business.
A woman has reported her caretaker to the Nigerian Police after she alleged that the man identified as Boniface Mordi stole her N150,000 after an argument on Monday, 19th October, in Umuagu Quarters, Asaba, Delta State.
According to a reliable source, the caretaker had accosted the woman asking her to pay off the three months salary she was owing. The woman alleged that when she went out to borrow the money from a neighbour, she came back and found that the money she made from the day's business had suddenly disappeared.
The tenant, Mabel Aigbe accused the caretaker of stealing her money. She said it was after she excused the caretaker to approach a neighbour whom she could borrow money from, that the caretaker used the opportunity to ransack her bag and steal the money.
After he stole the money, the caretaker disappeared and has not been seen ever. Speaking to a correspondent, the aggrieved tenant said, "I was owing three months’ rent and the caretaker had been disturbing me for payment; unfortunately, the money I made from my sales was not sufficient for me to offset my rent and I pleaded with him when he came to my room but he didn’t listen; so I went to my neighbour’s place in anger, leaving my room open and on my return, I discovered the money in my bag, N150, 000, had been removed."
It has been revealed that the caretaker had been involved in such cases in the past where he has been caught stealing people's items.
The exasperated woman has reported the matter to the police. She hopes the police will find and arrest the suspect so as to recover her stolen money.
