A group of aggrieved ex-militants have warned the Buhari-led government of chaos if former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi is not screened by the Senate soon.
Niger Delta ex-militants led by their president, Young Piero, and secretary, Toriomo Excel, on Tuesday warned President Muhammadu Buhari against any plan by the Senate not to screen former Governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi, reminding the president that the only reason they supported him was because of Amaechi.
The ex-militants who described the ex governor as "Lion of Niger Delta", warned of problems should anything be done to sidetrack him.
"We supported Buhari-led APC because we wanted change. The Senate should know better that a fight against Ameachi is a fight against the progressives; a delay to screen Ameachi is against the peace-loving people of Niger-Delta and millions of Nigerians.
It is time for the Senate to recognise him and some others who worked for the peace enjoyed during the last general election. The Niger Delta Coalition does not see any reason why he (Ameachi) has not been screened by the Senate.
He is a leader, a coach, an instructor, a mobiliser and a motivator who put his life, family and the lives of many that believed in the struggle to bring about the change Nigeria is talking about today," the ex-militants said.
The ex-militants called on the Senate to fast-track the screening exercise of Rotimi Amaechi, urging them to stop the further delay.
Amaechi was supposed to have been screened on Tuesday, October 20, but was later moved to Thursday, and the development has raised apprehension in some quarters who believe the Senate are playing a game of hide-and-seek with the former governor.
