The Indonesian authority has announced that henceforth anyone docked for sexual offenses such as rape would be chemically castrated.

The Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat, has told reporters that the president has expressed approval for a law which provides chemical castration for convicted pedophiles.

Under the 2002 Child Protection Law which is currently in use, child sex offences are punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a maximum fine of 300 million rupia (21,800 dollars).

The new law has been hailed by Indonesians as well as  child rights activist groups as Indonesia has witnessed an increase in the number of child abuse since 2011.
