Babangida Ibrahim, a 35-year-old man, who escaped with handcuffs from a policeman in Katsina State three years ago, has been re-arrested.

According to Punch Metro, Ibrahim of Tudu village in the Kurfi Local Government Area of the state escaped from the officer in 2016, but he was re-arrested on January 11, 2019, at Batagarawa.

The police said Ibrahim confessed during interrogation that he escaped from the policeman when he was being taken to his house for a search.

He was said to have also confessed that one Sanusi Gwarzo of Gwarzo village, also in the Kurfi Local Government Area of the state, who is now at large, assisted him in removing the handcuffs after he had used a sharp object to spoil it.

The handcuffs were valued at N10,000.

According to the police, Ibrahim specialised in stealing domestic animals.

The police arraigned him and four others of his accomplices on two counts of belonging to a gang of thieves and escaping from lawful custody.

The four men, who are still at large, are Lawal Fati, Bello Kunduga, Kabiru and Gwarzo.

Ibrahim was arraigned for cognizance purpose before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and was remanded in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department until March 18, when his case would come up for mention before Senior Magistrate Fadila Dikko.
