The Governorship Election Tribunal in sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun state has affirmed the election of the state governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun.

The tribunal dismissed the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka. The three-men panel, headed by Justice Henry Olusiyi dismissed all the grounds of the petition by the PDP candidate on Friday, describing them to be lacking in  merit.

“That all issues formulated for determination are resolved in the negative against the Petitioners for lack of merit …” Justice Olusuyi ruled.

Hundreds of the PDP supporters wept uncontrollably at the court premises, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyalists took to victory songs.

Heavy security presence was still visible at the Isabo area of the court with commercial activities paralyzed.

The trial which started about four months ago, saw Isiaka challenging the April 11 election in nine local governments out of the 20.
