One of South African President, Jacob Zuma's bodyguards, Sergeant N J Magwaza, was shot and killed in eNtumeni, Eshowe, at about 1.30am on Monday, October 26.
Police spokesman, Thulani Zwane said Sergeant Magwaza had apparently been stationed at Zuma’s Nkandla homestead, but had not been at work at the time.
"Magwaza, from the Presidential Protection Unit, was killed at his house in eNtumeni area Eshowe. He was attacked by an unknown male and shot," said Zwane.
According to IOL News, the assailant had tried to torch the rondavel in which Magwaza had been sleeping, but the fire had been extinguished. The attacker reportedly fled with Magwaza’s firearm.
Eshowe police are investigating the murder but no arrests has been made. The Richards Bay organised crime intelligence unit are also trying to unravel the mystery around the killing.
It would be recalled that one of Premier Senzo Mchunu’s bodyguards-Xolani Nkosi was also killed in July within the eNtumeni municipality.
