As the security cordon around the Gombe state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remains in force, motorists are lamenting the use of one lane 48 hours after the announcement of gubernatorial and house of assembly election results in the state, Sun News reports.

Security personnel who were stationed around Bauchi road, the road leading to the INEC’s office in Gombe, had been deployed Saturday to ensure the safety of election umpire’s office.

According to the spokeswoman of the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Mary Obed Malum,  the “personnel were still there, awaiting a stand down order from the force,” declaring that the 2019 general election was peaceful in the state.

However, according to motorists plying the road, their having to drive on “one lane is taking longer than expected and is causing more congestion on Federal Highway,” said Malam Saminu, a taxi driver, to Daily Sun.

Another commercial driver Babangida Julde further complained that the situation is causing traffic congestion, particularly inconvenient for those traveling from out of state.
