A soldier has been dismissed by the Nigerian army after he was found guilty of defiling a 14-year-old girl.

The Theatre Command Special Court Martial sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State, has dismissed from the Armed Forces, a flight lieutenant, Martins Owerrem, for assaulting and raping a 14-year-old female internally displaced person (IDP).
The officer had been charged with three counts of disobedience to standing order, assault, and defilement by inserted his finger into the private parts of the victim before raping her inside the bush.
The crime took place in 2018, when Owerrem was the Officer Commanding of the Special Force Battallion near Bakassi IDP camp.
