The police in Ogun State have arrested a 47-year-old ex-convict for parading himself as a legal practitioner.

It was learnt that suspect, Balogun Ayodele, was caught while appearing as a defence counsel before a Magistrate Court at Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.

Our correspondent further gathered that the suspect’s presentation in court aroused the suspicion of the magistrate who put his legal expertise to a test. But upon his failure, the magistrate invited police officers from Ilaro Area Command who stepped in.

A statement by the Command’s Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi quoted Ayodele to have confessed that he was not a lawyer upon his arrest and interrogation.

“On interrogation, he confessed that he is never a lawyer and that he has been going to court under pretense of being a legal practitioner for quite some time now.

“While the investigation was going on,  a prison warden came to identify him as an ex-convict who just finished  serving a six months jail term on a similar offence”
, Oyeyemi said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama had ordered that the suspect be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as the investigation is concluded.
