A pregnant woman killed herself because she thought her boyfriend would force her to have an abortion.

Cassie Turton

Metro UK reports that the 26-year-old woman, Cassie Turton from King’s Lynn, Norfolk, had been dating her boyfriend for around six months when she fell pregnant.

According to her family,  Cassie feared he would dump her eight weeks into the pregnancy if she decided to keep the child. Her mother Sandra Hammond-Grant, 52, said in a statement King’s Lynn County Court: ‘He made it known to her that he wasn’t interested in having any more [children].

‘If she did not get rid of it he would dump her. This is why she felt as down as she did.’

Meanwhile, the boyfriend told the court that Cassie, who worked as a waitress supervisor, became ‘unwell and sad’ when she thought he was seeing someone else. He maintained that he was seeing no one else and that he only meant leaving her flat.

Reports say on the day of the suicide attempt, a neighbour called the emergency services at 9.30pm – but Cassie didn’t reach the hospital until just after 10pm.

Cassie’s mother believes medics could have saved her daughter’s life had they idenfitied her case as a suicide and sent an emergency ambulance.

She said: ‘I still have my beliefs that if the ambulance turned up and if the hospital would have treated Cassie as an urgent case it would be different.’
