In keeping to the Buhari anti-corruption stance, a gallant road Marshal has effected the conviction of a road user who tried fruitlessly to bribe him.
Yesterday, a Court in Benin City, convicted a man identified as Ayo Okundaye, a motorist, for attempting to bribe a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Marshal with N500.
The Magistrate, Friday Igbinosa, found Okundaye guilty of the 3-count charge of driving without number plate, forged Driver’s Licence and attempt to bribe FRSC official on duty and ordered him to pay N35,000 for the offences.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charges, however, alleged that the money was not a bribe but a gratification."I, however, commend you for admitting guilt but must warn you to desist from the act and ensure you go through appropriate quarters to acquire your vehicle particulars and Driver’s Licence in the future," he said.
The magistrate, who marked the N500 note as Exhibit A, ordered the forfeiture of the faked Driver’s Licence to the Federal Government. He also commended the FRSC official for resisting the temptation to receive bribe and urged other marshals to emulate him.
