Emir Sanusi's Uncle, Bayero Sues Him Over Demolition of Palace

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi has been dragged before a court by his uncle for allegedly planning to destroy some historical structures in the palace.

Sanusi's uncle, Alhaji Salim Abubakar Bayero is accusing him of trying to demolish the palace structures so as to build offices for district heads.

Daily Trust reports that a High Court in Kano on Friday, ordered the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor to refrain from demolishing any historical structure within the palace until the outcome of the application filed before it by the emir’s uncle.

Bayero had dragged Sanusi, the Kano Emirate Council and the Attorney General of Kano to court for plan to demolish some historical structures in the palace and construct new offices for district heads.

The restraining order read in part “That an order for interim injunction is hereby made restraining Emir Muhammadu Sanusi ll and Kano Emirate Council, the 1st and 2nd defendants in the case from demolishing and or tampering with any structure in the Kano emir’s palace (Gidan Rumfa) by virtue of being ‘Yan Fulani or Bayin Sarki pending the determination of the substantive application”.

Some structures at Ka’iya and Kachako sections as well as the graveyard of some past emirs of Kano located within the palace are some of the structures which the Emir is said to be preparing to destroy.

Justice A.T Badamasi, who presided over the matter, moved the case till November 12, 2015 for hearing of the motion on notice.
