Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to bring the country to a halt in the heat of the face-off between the workers’ union and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige over the latter’s refusal to assent to the workers’ choice of Comrade Frank Kokori as Chairman, National Insurance Trust Fund (NISTF).

Readers recall that earlier today, a protest which the workers had intended to be peaceful turned bloody when elements believed to be thugs came from nowhere and unleashed violent attacks on the workers, inflicting injuries on many.

Ngige was accused of hiring thugs to descend on the protesting workers, a charge which the controversial minister has denied.
