There are speculations in some quarters that the ministers-designate might possibly not be compelled to declare their assets. A top ranking presidential official has given reasons why.
President, Muhammadu Buhari
It seems like many who believed that President Buhari will compel his ministers to declare their assets as it had been believed, are in for a shocker.
It has been authoritatively revealed that even though the President had allegedly asserted that his ministers will declare their assets during his campaigns in order to continue the transparency and corruption free agenda of the government, facts from the presidency are saying otherwise.
A high ranking presidency official, asked yesterday if the presidency would require the ministers-designate to make public their declared assets, said the ministers to-be would not be subjected above constitutional requirements.
He said: “What does the law require? Whatever the law requires is what we expect them to be doing? Does the law require it?”
Yesterday, several of the ministers-designate shied away from the question, some even aggressively.
However, it is believed that many of the ministers-designate will willingly declare their assets without being told in order to support the present administration and its cardinal objective of zero tolerance for corruption.
Many say, if President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo could declare their assets, nothing should stop the ministers from following their footsteps.
