Okada Rider Bags One-Year Imprisonment For Beating Policeman In Jigawa

The accused person admitted committing the offences after it was mentioned before the Magistrate.

A Jigawa State Magistrate Court has sentenced a 30-year-old man, Rabiu Wada, an Okada rider, to fifteen months in prison for assaulting a police officer.
 
Police prosecutor said the incident happened at Kiyawa road along in Dutse, the capital city of Jigawa state, when the Okada rider hit the police motorcycle along the road.
 
He added that the victim violated the traffic regulations by following the other lane which lead to a head-on collision which lead to physical combat between the Okada rider and the police officer.
 
The Okada rider was accused for committing three-count charges including traffic rules violation, interrupting police from performing his duty, and assault on the police officer.
 
The accused person admitted committing the offences after it was mentioned before the Magistrate.
 
Presiding magistrate, Muhammad Laminu Usman sentenced the accused person to fifteen months imprisonment or payment of N25,000 fine.
 
Usman explained that the accused person was sentenced to five months imprisonment or ten thousand fine for violation of traffic regulations.
 
The accused person was also sentenced to five months imprisonment or five thousand fine for interrupting police personnel from doing his work.
 
He was also sentenced to five months imprisonment or ten thousand fine for beating police officer and tearing his uniform.
