The famous striker of France and Real Madrid, Karim Benzema, has been arrested by the police today.

The Guardian reports that the footballer has been taken into police custody as part of an inquiry into an alleged plot to blackmail fellow France international and Lyon winger, Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape.
The Telegraph explains that investigators are trying determine the extent to which Benzema was aware of the intimate video featuring Valbuena, which found its way into the hands of blackmailers.
Some sources say that Benzema mentioned the sex tape to Valbuena during a meeting of the French team in early October.
Previously the former Liverpool striker Djibrill Cisse was interviewed and released as a part of the same investigation.
“Djibril Cisse was taken into custody… in connection with a judicial investigation opened in the district court of Versailles on July 31 2015. This is an offence punishable by at least five years in prison,” a prosecutor said in October.
Sylvain Cormier, the lawyer of Benzema, says that his client would respond to any summons. He added that Benzema was targeted by blackmailers in 2011.
