In Pictures: Activists Commemorate 20th Anniversary of Ken Saro-Wiwa's Execution

Activists has yesterday evening, commemorated the 20th anniversary of the execution of Nigeria's environmental crusader, Ken Saro-Wiwa.

Yesterday, November 10th, several activists commemorated the 20th anniversary of the brutal execution of Nigerian writer and environmental crusader Kenule Beeson Saro Wiwa.
 
It can be recalled that the slain activist who is the winner of the Right Livelihood Award and the Goldman Environmental Prize, was an Ogoni man and spoke out against both Shell Oil Company and the Nigerian government for the environmental degradation caused by oil extraction in his area.
 
On November 10th, 1995 Ken Saro-Wiwa was arrested, tried, and executed on the orders of military dictator, Sani Abacha. His execution was met with international condemnation and Nigeria was expelled from the Commonwealth of Nations for three years.
