A dubious Islamic cleric who duped a business man of the sum of N20 million was arrested and arraigned in court.
Sayyadi Hassan Muhammad, an Islamic cleric is in trouble after he conspired with a student identified as Mukaila Ibrahim to steal the sum of $100,000 from his businessman master.
The man who has been dragged to a Kano State Senior Magistrate Court has been told to cough up the money.
It was revealed that Muhammad used Ibrahim to steal the money after it was changed to its Naira equivalent. He gave Ibrahim N6 million from the N20 million and lavished the rest on expensive things.
The prosecutor in the case had earlier told the court: “Mallam Sayyadi Muhammad of Unguwa Uku Quarters, Kano, a self-acclaimed Islamic scholar, induced a domestic servant, Mukaila Ibrahim, aged 37 years, of Nassarawa GRA Kano, to steal the sum of $100,000, the equivalent of N20 million from his employer.
"After the deal was done, the Mallam gave the sum of N6 million to the said Mukaila and conveted the balance to himself.
"The Mallam used his loot for the following: to buy a Honda Civic car valued at N850,000; a tricycle valued at N430,000; a Mercedes Benz valued at N1.6 million; rented a shop at Kantin Kwari Market for N1.5 million, bought textile materials valued at N1,650 and cash sum of N432,100.
Mukaila bought a plot of land built at Hotoro area valued at N2,165,200; a Golf automobile valued at N550,000; Zongshen motorcycle for N135,000; bought a fridge, television set, decoder and gas cooker. One Habibu was given the sum of N90,000.”
When the charges were read to the accused, they pleaded not guilty and the senior magistrate, Ahmed Hassan Fagge, ordered that they be released on bail, while adjourning the matter to November 25 for further mention.
