New MTN CEO Arrives Nigeria for Talks Over $5.2bn Fine

MTN Nigeria is still making efforts to see that the hefty fine imposed on it by NCC is reduced.

The new MTN Group Executive Chairman Phuthuma Nhleko has arrived Nigeria for more talks on reducing the $5.2 billion fine imposed on the company by the Nigerian Communications Commission.
 
MTN has said it was continuing talks with the authorities in Nigeria over the fine. Nhleko was named executive chairman of MTN for a period of up to six months after Sifiso Dabengwa stepped down as CEO with immediate effect on Monday as Nigeria slapped the company with heavy fine for its refusal to disconnect 5.2million unregistered lines.
 
Whether there will be success or not in the talk cannot be said, as the deadline for payment of the heavy fine approaches.
 
Analyst believe the company will reach an agreement for reduction before Monday.
