Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Umar Manko
Swindling a police officer in the rank of an Assistant Inspector General of Police might be unthinkable for many but not for Seun Bankole.
The 28-year old man has since been arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrate’s court for allegedly defrauding AIG, Umar Manko in Lagos state, western Nigeria.
Manko who was the former Commissioner of Police, Lagos State before he was promoted and transferred, suffered his fate after engaging Bankole in a contract work. The incident happened at Ayisome estate, Isheri in Idimu where Manko has a property.
PM News gathered that Manko entrusted cable wires, bags of cement and some packets of tiles valued at N450,000 for his property to Bankole for ongoing construction work.
When Manko left from his base, Bankole allegedly carried away and sold everything at give away prices and escaped. The work he was asked to do in the house was not also done to the disappointment of Manko.
When Manko returned to the place and discovered what Bankole did to him, he did not resort to self help as a senior police boss. Rather, Manko went to the police at Area M command, Idimu and reported the matter. Bankole was arrested and charged to court with stealing under the Criminal Code.
He pleaded not guilty. The case is yet to be concluded in court.
