According to Punch Metro, as many as twenty-three of the rescued inmates of the Ibadan house of horror, otherwise known as Olore Correctional Centre, have been admitted at the Adeoyo State hospital in Ibadan so they could receive better health care treatment before being released to their families; while about 100 others have been reunited with their families.

The notorious centre was, last week, discovered by the state government and inmates were rescued by security personnel, after which Governor Seyi Makinde visited the place and ordered its demolition.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Faosat Sanni, stated this at the weekend while briefing newsmen on the updates.

Sanni said, “After due profiling of the rescued inmates by the relevant agencies, over 100 of the rescued inmates were handed over to their relatives, with an agreement not to return them to such centres.”

She urged parents and guardians to always seek government assistance in correcting societal ills rather than subjecting their children to the care of unregistered correctional centres.

“Cases like this and many societal ills are better handled by social workers in the ministry,” she added.

Sanni stressed that government has continued to ensure that adequate food, water and conveniences were provided for those rescued, as about 23 of them are still receiving treatment at Adeoyo State Hospital “due to their critical conditions.”
