Police Officer Who Beat Young Man Unconscious In Imo State Lands In Serious Trouble

A police officer who beat a young man unconscious in Imo state has found himself in more trouble than he bargained for.

One of the policemen, who allegedly beat a youth, Kennedy Iwuala, to a state of unconsciousness in Anara, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State on Monday, identified only as Blacky, has been arrested and is in detention, Punch Metro reports.

It was gathered that the state Commission of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, who was unhappy with the unprofessional conduct of the cops, had ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.

Some policemen attached to the Anara Police Division had on Monday went for indiscriminate arrests at the St. Innocent’s junction in Anara.

They arrested Iwuala, who reportedly inquired what his offence was.

Eyewitnesses said that the cops started beating Iwuala with their rifles.

The victim, who fell into unconsciousness, was rejected at the first hospital he was rushed to due to his health condition.

He was, however, admitted in another hospital he was later rushed to.

The youth of the community, who protested the incident on Tuesday, decried police brutality, wickedness and extortion in the community.

They called on the Inspector-General of Police and the CP to bring the errant police personnel to justice.

A source said, “One of the overzealous policemen, who beat the youth unconscious, has been detained. As I speak to you, he is in the cell. The CP, who was unhappy with the development, has ordered an investigation into the incident.”

The police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said that the command was on top of the situation.

Ikeokwu stated that the victim was responding to treatment even as he said the community was now calm.
