A teenage mother has been arrested after she poisoned her child to death before attempting to kill herself.
A 19-year-old Zimbabwean girl, Nokuthaba Mpofu, from the Maphisa village in Matobo District, has been arrested for allegedly killing her own two-year-old daughter before attempting to commit suicide following a domestic dispute with her family.
According to MyZimbabwe, Mpofu was alleged to have drunk a chemical substance and gave some to her little daughter, Lubelihle Majola, following a dispute with her live-in boyfriend.
The child toddler reportedly died the same day while Mpofu was rushed to the United Bulawayo Hospitals where she was treated and discharged after which the police arrested her.
A family member reported that Mpofu was found writhing in agony after drinking the dangerous chemical and was rushed to the hospital where doctors pumped the substance out of her stomach, thereby saving her life.
She is currently in the custody of the police where she will be prosecuted for the murder of her child.
