Suspicion of a terrorist attack has sparked a stampede in a Kano mosque during Juma'at prayers.

A suspected terrorist has triggered panic and stampede at the Friday mosque in Kano while the Imam was delivering his sermon today, Friday, November 20.

A man who appeared in the midst of the praying crowd looked suspicious and people suspected he was a suicide bomber, hence the stampede.

ThisDay reports that the incident occurred at Ahalul Sunna mosque opposite Rijiyar Zaki mosque along New Site road of Bayero University, Kano, when the mosque was full with worshippers for Juma’at prayer.

The panic and stampede broke out in the premises of the mosque at the peak of the sermon by the imam as people began running and scaling the big wall of the mosque for their safety.

One of those injured, Umar Farouk Dandawaki, said: "I sustained injuries on my legs and shoulders because I jumped over the wall of the mosque for my life.

"The suspect who looked like a mad man attempted to be close to the Imam but was stopped by the mosque security."

Farouk added that the quick intervention of Good Samaritans and policemen deployed at the mosque quelled the tension.

It was learnt that the suspect was also taken away by the policemen for questioning.
